The quote’s in, now to the calculations

I got the quote from the spinning shop on Friday, but I’ve been out of town all weekend. So I’m still working everything up based on the numbers and specs they gave me.

Here’s what I know:

  • They may not be able to make the kettle quite as light as I did. So it will likely weigh more than 6 oz, but should still weigh less than 8. The upside of the increased weight is that it would make the kettle more robust, but I’m going to keep working with them to get it as low as possible.
  • At the quantities we’re looking at, the costs for the basic kettle will be a bit more (like a few bucks) than I could offer them for when I was planning on making them myself. So for the fifty who have reservations, and possibly a few more, I’ll be offering the kettle effectively at cost. Consider it the best THANK YOU I can offer to those who have supported this project and waited so long for it to be finished. I will accept tips. :)

Here’s what I’m working on:

  • Getting some pics of what you all will be getting: the anodized kettle, neoprene sleeve, stuff sack, and stopper. Oh, and the pictures will include labels I had made of the as-yet-unreleased brand name and logo!
  • Setting up shipping and a Paypal shop, so you all can finally order these things!

So stay tuned. There’s more coming this week!

8oz is more than 6 but less than 13 by a good bit. Cheaters never prosper, or something like that. Glad these are becoming a reality.

Good to see a hobby for you may turn into just a touch more:)

Devin,
Just put in my order for “Kettle #1″! Are they going to be anodized like some of your test kettles?
Glad the wheels (or kettles) are turning!
Take Care,
Steve

Thanks guys! Tim – I know, the extra ounces haunt me, but I’m trying to keep it light, I swear!

Steve – thanks! For others reading this, Steve has been supporting me since I was hacking up aluminum bottles in my Annapolis basement. A diehard supporter.

Edit: And yep, these will absolutely all be hard anodized.

Great work Devin, I can’t wait to see how they turn out. Just placed my order.
